A new-admin-friendly walkthrough of every pricing/discount tool in the admin panel — Packages, Offers, Coupons, Package Discounts, Referrals — plus a full glossary of every "credit" type on the platform and how they differ.
This platform has five separate, independent tools that all touch price or user balances. They are NOT interchangeable and were built for different jobs. This page exists so a brand-new admin can tell them apart in one read, and understand every "credit"-shaped word used across their forms.
Packages (/admin/packages) — define WHAT is sellable at all: a subscription pass or a credit pack, its base price, and every entitlement it grants. Nothing can be purchased unless a Package exists for it. This is the foundation every other tool discounts.
Offers (/admin/offers) — automatic, rule-based campaigns. An admin defines WHO qualifies (a user group, a segment rule, specific accounts, or everyone) and the platform surfaces/applies the deal on its own — no code to type. Use this for "new signups get 25% off their first week."
Coupons (/admin/coupons) — a code a specific person types in by hand, either on the dashboard "Redeem" box (for free credits/access) or in the checkout box (for a price discount). Use this for press, partners, influencers, or one-off customer-support goodwill — anything that isn't "every user who matches a rule."
Package Discounts (/admin/discounts) — a sitewide sale. Every visitor sees the same lower price on the packages you pick, no targeting, no code. Use this for a general promotion like Black Friday.
Referral Program (/admin/referrals) — a standing, always-on growth loop: existing users get a personal link, and both sides get a small bonus when it converts. Not a campaign you launch and stop — it just runs.
These CAN combine on a single checkout (a user with an active Offer claim who also enters a Coupon code, on a package that also has a sitewide Discount active). Only one price-reducing tool wins per checkout — whichever already reduced the price (Coupon or sitewide Discount) takes priority over an Offer's automatic discount, which is dropped rather than stacked. You never need to worry about someone getting double-discounted.
The word "credit" gets reused for several genuinely different things across this platform. Mixing these up is the single most common new-admin mistake when filling in Offer/Coupon/Package forms.
CV Credits (a.k.a. "Credits", "tokens") — a general-purpose, non-expiring balance spent on CV/resume AI actions (resume optimization, ATS scoring, cover letters) once a user's free daily allowance is used up. This is what Offer/Coupon "Credits" grants add to.
Interview Credits — a SEPARATE non-expiring balance, spent only on Mock Interview sessions. Having CV Credits does NOT cover interviews, and having Interview Credits does not cover anything else. They never share a pool.
Bonus CV Slots — not a spendable balance at all — a permanent +1 to how many resumes a user can keep saved in their library at once. Once granted, it never depletes.
Sprint Pass Days ("Pass Days") — days of a time-limited Pass (temporary unlimited access to certain features), not a spendable count. Additive to whatever pass expiry the user already has.
Signup Bonus Credits (set at Admin → Platform Defaults → Free Allowances) — just the CV Credits balance granted automatically, once, to every brand-new signup. Same balance as "CV Credits" above, this setting only controls the starting amount.
AI Credit Value (USD) (set at Admin → Platform Defaults → AI Tier Map) — an entirely different axis: an internal, admin-only cost-accounting number, not a user-facing balance. It's the exchange rate the business uses to convert real AI-provider token cost into "how many CV Credits does this action cost the user." Today it only actually prices the CV Review feature — other AI features (chat, cover letter, cv-tailor, analyze-match) still charge a flat credit amount regardless of this setting; Mock Interview has its own separate, already-configurable token cost.
AI Token Estimate (same page) — the assumed input/output token counts per AI request, used alongside AI Credit Value to calculate that internal exchange rate above. Also admin-only, not user-facing.
When filling in an Offer or Coupon's "Value" or "Grants" fields, always double-check which balance you're actually granting — CV Credits and Interview Credits are the two easiest to mix up, since both forms list them right next to each other.
An Offer's Target Mode decides who it becomes eligible for:
User Group (Automated) — targets a live-computed cohort such as "Newcomers" (signed up within the admin-configured newcomer window, see Free Allowances above), "Paid Users", or "Suspended Accounts". Membership is computed fresh on every check, not stored on the account.
User Group (Manual) — targets a custom tag an admin has to assign to specific users by hand elsewhere in the admin panel.
Segment — a custom AND/OR rule you build in the Offer form itself (e.g. "0 credits left AND tier = free").
Specific users — a hand-picked list of individual accounts.
Broadcast (if you have permission) — every registered user.
Two extra toggles layer on top of whichever mode you pick: "Newcomers only" additionally excludes anyone who has EVER completed a purchase (checked by purchase history, not signup date — combine with a Newcomers group target if you need both), and "Public (Show on Banner)" controls whether an eligible offer auto-appears on the dashboard promo banner, versus only being claimable by a user who already has a direct link to it.
The "Promo Code" field on an Offer currently has no matching user-facing entry box anywhere in the app — leave it blank. If you need a code a user types in by hand, that's what Coupons are for instead.
Packages — what's sellable, base price, entitlements, mock interview access, audience (candidate vs recruiter).
Targeted Offers — automatic rule-based campaigns.
Coupons — hand-typed codes for specific people/partners.
Package Discounts — sitewide sales.
Referral Program — the standing referral-bonus settings.
Free Allowances & Newcomer Window — signup bonus credits, and the day-window that defines "Newcomers".
AI Tier Map / AI Credit Cost — the internal USD-to-credit exchange rate (CV Review pricing only, today).
