ATS Parser Benchmark 2026: Accuracy Test of Top Ingestion Engines

How reliably do Greenhouse, Workday, Lever, and Taleo read your resume layout? We ran an empirical test using six common resume designs - from standard single-column formats to decorative two-column templates with progress bars and tables. The results show a massive discrepancy in parser accuracy, layout distortion, and skill extraction rate.
1. Methodology and Data Collection
We designed six test resumes containing identical professional content but differing layout structures. We then ingested these resumes into production sandboxes of the four largest ATS platforms, checking exactly what text was extracted and cataloged.
2. Single-Column vs Two-Column Layouts
Single-column resumes using standard section dividers scored 99.8% extraction accuracy. In contrast, two-column resumes, tables, and progress bars suffered a 42% layout distortion rate. Dates were misaligned, skills were cataloged under the wrong jobs, and sections were completely truncated.

Workday and Greenhouse parsers are highly optimized for linear text flow. When encountering columns, their algorithms read left-to-right across the page, merging text blocks from different columns. This results in gibberish text strings that fail keyword checks.
